  • Hope Church, Harataima, Gayle Gutierrez (guest) wrote 11 years ago:
Hope Church is a growing church plant off of Machida Christian Center. Pastor Sato and his wife Megumi-san are very kind, loving, and helpful. I enjoyed teaching English to children on Friday afternoons there from 2009 to 2013. Megumi-san is a talented piano teacher. Students come from nearby homes. Visitors are welcome at Sunday worship services. Gayle Gutierrez, JEMS Missionary

Map in comment on Sagamihara Dependent Housing Area has link to 1968 map that shows location of old school. Wikimapia's silly spam filter won't let me paste it here and deleted my longer description.

I believe this road is called Artesian Road or Aqueduct Road on the Sagamihara Dependant Housing Area base. I believe it is fed by an artesian spring.

A detailed map from 1968 is available at http://www.zahsalumni.com/misc/sagami%20big.htm . It shows house outlines and addresses for houses including those obscured by trees in the satellite pictures.
  • John O. Arnn Elementary School, GregLawson wrote 13 years ago:
This elementary school replaced an earlier one that I heard burned down in the 1970s or 1980s. It was located across the street to the east, next to the base fence. On the other side was a Japanese school. Maybe it moved because kids couldn't resist occasionally (at least in 1958) throwing rocks over the fence at the Japanese children. This location was the old school playground.

I believe this is the steam plant for the base radiator heating.
  • Fuchinobe Park, Greg Lawson (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
I wonder where the boundaries of Camp Fuchinobe for the U.S. Army from 1945 to November 1974 were? Wikipedia suggests it was NSA office Japan, which is believable due to the huge number of radio towers on the base in the 1960s.
